Taragi Hisogi

Hisogi stayed quiet as he decided to let Haru take the lead on this one. Hisogi had never been to Kumo before, and trying to insist that he was in charge would be pointless. This wasn't about pride or ego, they were only here to catch a murderer and Hisogi would use any means to make sure that was done. Right now, that involved playing nice with an old...friend(?) of Haru's. With any luck, he'd be able to shed a bit of light on anything that has happened.

Hisogi broke concentration for a moment as Sayuri slid next to him. "Hmm? What?" he asked as he had missed the beginning part of what she was saying. Hisogi had a habit of becoming too focused and blocking out others noises. "Oh right, we can share it" he said before splitting the roll and offering up half of it. He started to chew on his half afterwards.

Damn, it tasted better than he expected. Now he regretted giving half of it away.

"So you heard about the murder?" Hisogi questioned. "We were told something had happened but weren't given any details. Who was killed and what happened?" Hisogi asked in the hopes of gaining any sort of a lead or information at all.

Haru Sato

Well it seemed that the cat was already out of the bag and if Shibe knew then the village knew, so there was no point in panicking about it, most people already were in fear for their lives. "Did you know the victim?" Haru asked taking a bite of his roll. It reminded him that he was home.

"There's no official word yet but it's believed that he's a Shinobi related to ANBU in some way. Though from the gossip I don't think he's a member. Maybe an intelligence analyst or something like that." Shibe spilled the beans and he cleaned his cart. Gossip like this was all in a days work.

"They say that there's some symbol carved into his body... Gastly stuff like that." The vendor openly shuddered at the thought.

"Was there anyone acting suspiciously before the murder?" Haru asked digging for leads.

Shibe shook his head. "Nobody acting more unusual than normal I'm afraid."

Haru continued to eat expecting Shibe's answer to be longer he'd taken a big bite.

Sayuri Fukazawa

Sayuri happily took the other half of the roll from Hisogi when he offered it to her. She had only been joking in regards to the meal but free food was free food. Ripping open the wrapper wide, Sayuri set what was left of her roll on the ground. She picked up Hiro and placed him down along with the food, much to the pups excitement.

She could see why they had been selected for this assignment, the murder of an ANBU would have the entire Kumogakure administration up in arms. ANBU were suppose to be powerful and feared, she had a feeling this murder would not be going down to well in Kumo ANBU Headquarters. Which meant, much to her annoyance, that they were probably going to be tracked by them while they were in the village.

"So we get to deal with the mask wearing mouth breathers... Fantastic", Sayuri whined, in an overtly sarcastic tone, "One doesn't simply kill an ANBU agent and expect them to take it in their stride, which means their headquarters is going to be in a vengeful frenzy over this".

Haru's comment may have been accurate. As much as she belittled them, ANBU weren't exactly the weakest Ninja around and to take one down, especially in the way he was, wasn't an easy task for your average Joe. A Kuniochi had plenty more tactics to play the ANBU with then your standard Shinobi. It was something she would keep in mind, she was worried about ruling anything out at this point with how little information they've been given.

"Now that we're at least fed, we need to meet with the mortician. I've got a bad feeling that this is going to blow up in our faces if we're not fast or careful", Sayuri said to Hisogi in a low voice as she leaned forward to flick Haru's shoulder with her hand, nodding her head away from the cart to signal they should leave.

ANBU were among the elite shinobi of every village, that meant that they were all highly skilled. Very few got in just because of their connections. The role was too important to allow politics to get in the way. Hisogi was worried now more than before. If a chunin or something like that had been murdered, perhaps the enemy was weak...but not this. If a Jashin could kill and string up a man like that, he was strong.

Not only that, but ANBU would likely be all over trying to find the killer. That was the problem with investigations, it was too easy to get personally involved. That was probably why groups like this one existed, so shinobi under the Daimyo could perform their work without having to fear attachments. Even Haru didn't seem too bothered that he was home. Hisogi was happy for this. HE had never faced a Jashin, but all reports said it wouldn't be a pleasant experience...

"Haru, as much fun as it is talking to your friend we are late for our appointment" Hisogi said in order to keep it vague. They didn't need more rumors spreading about their arrival, Haru's presence along was going to complicate things. "Thank you for the food, it was delicious and kind of you to provide" Hisogi said to the chef before turning to leave.

Haru nodded to Hisogi's suggestion he knew that he might just be a liability because of encounters like that. Then again Shibe most likely wouldn't have volunteered that little tidbit about the victim being related to ANBU spec ops.

Haru would bow to Shibe as thanks before moving off toward the mortician. "It's been a while but if its the same guy he usually spends most of his time in the body cooler looking for every little thing. Expect a stack of paperwork detailing everything. Most people in Kumo are like that." Haru decided to clarify. "Dedicated." For the rest of the way to the coroners office he'd do his best to keep his head down few in town would greet him as warmly as Shibe.

Sayuri Fukazawa

"Thanks for the meal Shibe, I'll definately be back for lunch tomorrow", Sayuri told the cart owner, blowing him a kiss as thanks for the free food.

Sayuri picked up Hiro as they all turned and proceeded to walk away from Shibe's cart. She bit at the nail of her thumb as Hiro squirmed in her arms, trying to claw his way back to the cart full of meats. In her experience, she had never had the misfortune of crossing paths with a Jashin, just the usual fairy tales that people spread. After all, an immortal Shinobi who served a god of darkness was almost as far fetched as a chakra absorbing Kunoichi who worshipped the nine tails Bijuu. She couldn't help but worry exactly what a Ninja with that sort of power could actually do, especially when backed into a corner by snooping investigators.

"Has anyone ever fought a Jashin before? I've never had the honor myself", Sayuri asked casually as they continued walking through the Kumo streets.

The sights and sounds of the village still attacked her senses as the people of Kumo carried out their daily business. Some stared at the trio but most seemed to ignore them. Sayuri couldn't help but giggle to herself when a group of young Genin Kunoichi pointed her out to each other, one of them even trying to style her friends hair up into a pair of ears. Sometimes, for all her peoples talk of how much humans hated the Kitsune, she forgot how small the number of humans were who had actually seen or met one.

As the boys answered her query, she noticed a young woman, shorter then herself, with flowing red hair staring at the group from the entrance of an alley way as they strolled past. Despite her hair covering her right eye, Sayuri could still make out the intensity in her eyes. Sayuri looked away briefly before returning her gaze to the now vacant spot where she had been standing. Shrugging her shoulders, Sayuri pressed on with her companions toward the morgue.

Hisogi had many thoughts rolling through his mind. He was questioning where this investigation would lead. The village seemed uptight, but things didn't seem too bad. Had they been wrong? Was their still only the one death to worry about? What were the ANBU up to? Were they alreadyd performing an investigation? Was the Raikage going to be on their side or against them? However, all of these thoughts went out the window as Sayuri made her comment.

Hisogi stopped midstep and turned around. "Do NOT refer to it as an honor to fight a Jashin" Hisogi said in a quiet but intense whisper. "There is no honor in fighting these people. All they worship is death, suffering, and inflicting it on others. The only good that can come from this investigation is taking the head of this Jashin. He's not going to change, repent, or think about what he did. We're going to kill him before he gains too much power from his twisted god," Hisogi said before turning back forward and walking off.

"We're nearly there. Everyone keep your guard up and watch for any details. In ritualistic killings like this...there's always something important to them in the corpse."

Interrupted from his focus on blending in as much as possible by Sayuri's question, Haru thought for a moment. "I heard you have to take the head off." He responded in kind with Hisogi, "But I've never fought one."

Haru nodded at Hisogi's suggestion to keep his eyes open, and took up a flanking position behind Hisogi and next to Sayuri, making sure to let those casually watching that Hisogi was in-charge. He was too concerned about not being noticed that Haru completely missed the girl. Though he was mostly sure that they were still being watched perhaps by ANBU, but they were a lot better than the forest patrols at hiding their presence.

Sayuri Fukazawa

Sayuri almost bumped into Hisogi as he stopped dead in his tracks the minute her comment had slipped past her lips. She had no idea what to think at first, as Hisogi scolded her for talking so flippantly about the nature of their opponent. She stared up at him a little shocked as he finished berating her and continued walking along the street to the Morgue. Sayuri stood there and watched him leave as his words echoed through her head.

If he thought of the Jashin as a monster, what must he think of her. She had done things, terrible things, to people herself, remorseless, unrepenting as she stole their chakra and took their lives. Was she no different in his eyes? Did he think of her as being as evil as this Jashin? He hadn't really talked to her much, so it was possible that he had kept to himself out of some form of politeness. Who's really the heartless bastard I wonder, Hisogi.

"I'll endevour to bite my tongue next time, Sempai", Sayuri muttered to herself as she followed after her companion.

"You gotta take more than their head off. Depending on their devotion even that might not be enough to slay the cultist" Hisogi remarked as he kept walking forward. "We might have to cut everything off and bury them far and deep...so no one will ever find them again. Rumors exist that some Jashin are still buried out there...unable to die because of the pacts they've made..."

Hisogi let the story stay with his comrades, not saying anything else as they neared the morgue. It was your typical shinobi morgue, nothing too special about it except for some uneasiness in the air. Hisogi and the crew were directed to the back. Haru's memory was correct, but instead of the old timer there was now a young woman there. "Ah you must be the crew the Raikage told me to expect, good to meet you all," the woman said with a bow.

Hisogi returned it in kind. "Indeed we are, we were wondering if there was any more information you could give us about the murder"

"Murders" the woman clarified.

Hisogi nodded as he glanced back at his teammate. So they had been correct, more had died since the first. "Let us see the second victim" Hisogi requested.

The woman moved over and applies some chakra to a body locker before gripping the handle. She seemed to hesitate for a time before pulling backwards, the naked corpse coming in to view. IT was well built, likely the body of a shinobi. However, it wouldn't take them long to see the cause of death.

"Oh my god..." Hisogi said quietly as he covered his mouth. The man's head had been damaged extensively. The man's jaw had been broken as the top of the head was pulled back about as far as it could be. The top of the head was still attached, but you could basically see straight down the man's throat as his cheeks had been split open by the force of the killer.

"Fucking son of a bitch," Hisogi uttered as he turned to look away. This seemed to bother the young man a great deal. The woman just stood there, as if waiting to see if the squad had any specific questions they wanted answered.

Haru Sato

Haru would spare Hisogi the 'I told you so' because he was a professional. However he would have to admit he was wrong and the mortician was infact a woman, but by the look of the place she didn't lack her predecessors go-get-um attitude. As the place was in fact cleaner than Haru remembered it. It still smelled of embalming fluid and antiseptic but what else would you want a morgue to smell like? Flowers? Not qutie.

As the body was displayed to them Haru didn't gasp or turn away, his cheeks faded a little. He knew this person by reputation, from before he'd left the village. It was a good reputation at least of someone who was reliable and helpful.

Haru swallowed hard, he could feel himself pale a little bit but wouldn't say anything. He might have been practically kicked out but this place was still his home, and someone was bringing such profanity into his village.

He could feel his cheeks flush from rage. "What can you extrapolate about the cause of death? Is that damage from a weapon?" He asked in monotone covering his rage, stuffing it in a locker for later. He'd let it out on this Jashinist. Pictures didn't do it, but this body this person from his motherland made it all hit home. As for the cause of death he didn't know of the type of weapon or technique that had that kind of damage pattern.

Sayuri Fukazawa

Sayuri was still grumbling to herself by the time they reached the morticians but she did her best to put her game face on. Ripping a tassle off of her clothes, she used it to tie Hiro up outside, he whimpered his disapproval quite readily and she tried to quiet him with a rub on his belly. Getting up, Sayuri followed the boys in as Hisogi stated their purpose, the attendent knowing exactly what they were after. She was intrigued to learn of the second body however, it just showed how far behind they already were when it came to this Jashin.

She had to admit, this one was far less clean then the last one. The face of the new victim had been completely mangled in the least charming way possible. Sayuri cringed as she pictured the sort of force necessary to do that to a mans face. The amount of damage though spoke of something further to Sayuri however.

"Do you have an I.D. on this victim? Because this sort of damage looks vicious, like it might have even been personal", Sayuri chimed in, adding her own observation of the evidence laid before her.

"As far as I can tell...there wasn't a weapon used at all," the mortician said quietly. "If I had to guess, this man was looking at his killer as his jaw was ripped open. He probably died in such agony" the girl said quietly to answer Haru's question.

She did seem to pick up a little bit when Sayuri asked her question. "Yes I do," she admitted before holding out a file to the team. "If you look at the past information you'll notice something interesting," she said.

Hisogi looked over the folder before seeing what caught the mortician's eye. "The two victims...they were in the same genin team together" he said quietly. His smile was starting to come back to his face. There was no way that could be a coincidence. There must be some reason the Jashin had targeted members of this team specifically.

"Well guys we wanted a lead, now we have a place to start" Hisogi said before looking at Haru. "What are the odds of the Raikage allowing us to look over some of the village records when it comes to these men as genin? Maybe we can learn what it is about this team that's pissed someone off"

Haru Sato

It would take an aweful lot of strength to overcome a Shinobi. Especially a Kumo shinobi. It still made him shake a little bit. "No dice Hisogi." Haru responded matter of factly. "The third member of that team is long gone. He passed away during the villages 42nd Chunnin Exams. I was part of the Honor Guard when they buried what was left of him."

Haru rubbed his cleanly shaven chin, "The teacher is still around. One of the ANBU, last I checked, but I've been out of the loop a few years." Haru noted, simply off the top of his head. "We'll have to get the Raikage's permission to talk to the teacher."

It was hard to stifle his anger, it was like a red hot poker in his gut. He wasn't cut out for this detective crap. He just wanted the pleasure of strangling this Jashin guy to death. It would have been easy to be detached in another village, but this was too close to home. Haru would persist, if only driven by the primal desire to make this bastard pay for killing his once sworn brothers.

"Wait." Haru paused physically but his mind raced, and his mouth shortly followed. "This killing doesn't seem as ritualistic as the other. Do you have crime scene photos? Was there another symbol carved into the body?" Maybe Haru was unsure but maybe this kill was a red herring. Or a copycat using the Jashinist to fulfill a long standing grudge, upstanding people had the worst grudges against them after all.

Sayuri watched with great amusement as her two human companions reacted with disgust and anger at the Jashin's deeds. She honestly couldn't say she felt the same way, it was much simplier for her. She got paid to investigate these things, showing any sort of anger and frustration for the poor soul was just counter-productive and clouded ones mind. She was going to have to keep a close eye on the pair to make sure they stayed level headed.

"It doesn't matter if the Raikage gives us permission, we'll be able to see those records one way or another", Sayuri mentioned, not wanting to say to much in front of the mortician, but it was pretty easy to circumvent most security when you could transform your appearence into others. After all her shapeshifting powers allowed her far more then just the ability to morph into a younger form, "Just leave that part to me".

"There actually is a marking" the mortician said. "It took me a while to find though" she admitted. She placed a glove on before gathering some tweezers. She walked over to the corpse before lifting the tongue up. The group would see that the bottom of the tongue would have the Jashin marked cut in to it. "As far as I can tell, it was cut with the same instrument as the last victim. I definitely think these two were killed by the same person. If not, you're working with a very organized team"

"Jashinists don't work in teams, not when it comes to stuff like this. They take pleasure and honor in killing and multiliating their victims on their own. If it takes more than one of them to bring your enemy down...they don't understand the point. They see it as a waste of time," Hisogi said quietly as he thought over their options. Learning more about these two shinobi was going to be the key to this whole thing. Speaking to the Raikage and their Jounin instructor was going to be the best help they could get.

"Sayuri while I value your...talents, we have to at least try diplomacy first" Hisogi whispered to the woman. "The Daimyo has given us means, but he hasn't given us full immunity from the law. We can stretch the rules at best, only worse if we're not caught" Hisogi said in a way to make sure the mortician didn't here. "Please let's try talking to him first. He wants this Jashin caught as much as we do, he'll allow us to see the files. Why wouldn't he?"

Haru Sato

Why would the symbols be in such different positions? Was it as part of the kill how the people were killed? One on the chest the other under the tongue. The first seemed to be the work of a finesse artist the second seemed to be the work of a strong arm that didn't feel as confident as the first.

Something didn't add up but there wasn't anything he could figure out just looking at the bodies.

Haru stepped into whisper distance with Sayuri, it wasn't a comfortable place for him. Still he needed to be here to keep from being overheard. "We're going through proper channels first." Sure he was giving an order to an equal, but he knew that there wasn't much he could do to stop her if she wanted to do things her way. Well... outside of report her to the Daimyo, but that was a little extreme.

Stepping away from Sayuri and up to the mortician. "Thank you, you've been really helpful."

Rules and regulations weren't her thing, she had only ever been paid for results and results she could produce easily. Instead the humans decided to treat this as a game, hand shaking with every unworthy life form who gained a meaningless title. If the Kage's were truly worthy of her respect, she and her partners wouldn't be here cleaning this up. Perhaps she was merely ignorant and to sure of her own power but being caught up in bureaucratic red tape was a waste of her time.

Hisogi seemed desperate to run this by the book to her chagrin and it was beginning to try her already thin Kitsune patience. Haru's own forceful comment only saw her back go up further as the two ganged up on her. With a Hmph Sayuri turned her head away from the pair and folded her arms in defiance.

"Open minds gentlemen... You realise that a Kage would possess the power necessary to overpower an ANBU Jounin and do THAT sort of damage to someones face", Sayuri said in a huff, "Let's all keep that in mind before you both start throwing your trusting human ways around".

With that said, Sayuri turned and stormed out of the Morgue, collecting Hiro who was still whimpering over being abandoned, "There, there little man, Mommy's back, she just had to deal with some silly humans that's all. Come on", she said to the pup and she wandered off down the street to vent and do something foolish...

Hisogi looked after Sayuri as she started to head off. He heard her comments, but couldn't believe she had said them. She was suggesting that the Raikage might be a Jashin in disguise? There was no way, with all the troops that he commanded he could easily get some shinobi to clean up his messes. IF the Raikage was their enemy, they weren't going to hardly make any ground on this mission.

Hisogi walked out of the morgue with Haru as they made their way towards the Raikage tower. Sayuri was nowhere in sight. "I'm under the impression she doesn't like me...."

Haru followed Hisogi out of the Morgue, It wasn't surprising to him that Sayuri was gone off on her own to do her own thing. "Welcome to the Club." Haru responded to Hisogi's comment, noting that the fox woman wasn't too fond of him either.

Not that it mattered so long as Sayuri didn't do anything stupid to get them thrown out of the village.

"I think it's a good thing that loose mouth of hers would get us in trouble with a strait shooter like the Raikage." Haru voiced, perhaps a little loud making sure that if Sayuri was around that she could hear him. Perhaps it was just him poking fun at her the same way he been doing before.

Sayuri Fukazawa

Sayuri walked down the Kumo street holding Hiro in her arms as usual. She was looking for the perfect place to work the case, it had to have the right atmosphere, the right location, the right sort of quiet unseen spot where quiet unseen clientel were comfortable hanging out in. It wasn't easy in a village she'd never been to before but after walking for what felt like ages, she finally stumbled onto the perfect location. She looked down at the stairs that led to a basement establishment on a quiet off-street. Although the street was quiet, the establishment certainly wasn't as the sound of exotic music pierced the door and could be heard muffled up the stairs.

Without hesitation, Sayuri walked down and stopped at the bottom as the bouncer raised his hand to stop her. He looked her up and down with concerned interest, although looking less then enthusiastic that she was holding a live animal in her arms.

"What do you want?", he asked abruptly.

"I just arrived in town, I trade in... Services and was told this was the best place to come if I was looking for work on my way through", Sayuri explained to him, pulling 1,000 Ryo from her cleavage, that she had strategically stashed there of course, and slipping it into his hand. Effectively she told him the truth, just played up a bit to make her work sound less 'dignified' then it was.

"I see...", the Bouncer said with a smirk as he checked if the notes were real, "Yeah, no problem, just don't pester the customers to much or the boss will make me throw you out, understand?".

"I'm well aware of how this work, Sweetie", Sayuri retorted, pretending to seem like she was offended by his statement and walked through the door after he stepped aside. That was one plus for ditching the Boy's so far, she would never have been able to get all three of them in like that, no matter how charming or sexy she tried to be.

"Hey wait!", the Bouncer called out after her. Sayuri stopped and paused for a moment, expecting trouble as she casually turned around, "Come see me later and we'll work out what you can do to get your money back, hehehe".

"Oh, I look forward to it", Sayuri told him as she blew him a kiss. In your wildest dreams dirtbag, Sayuri thought to herself with a smirk. Turning, Sayuri proceeded into the crowded establishment as the music blared and the gambling tables were busy with the bustle of drunkards losing their money, heading toward a booth toward the corner of the establishment, so she'd have a 180 degree of view of the room.

"I think she wants to catch this guy like the rest of us, but I'm concerned about how she feels about it. I don't know, I just didn't like how she referred to it as an honor to fight a Jashin...no honor comes from killing this thing. It only causes death and destruction," Hisogi said quietly before looking over towards Haru.

Haru Sato

"I don't think she meant it as an honor. She just wanted to make herself sound a little more refined when talking about tearing one of those bastards apart." Haru was concerned that Hisogi would hang on a simple common play on words. Perhaps he was right to think so much of someone who's most likely lived longer than the both of them together. Then again such a person wasn't likely to mince words like that without meaning what they said.

Haru pushed Sayuri to the back of his mind. She was the last thing he wanted to think about.

"I don't think I should even be in the room." Haru breathed deeply. "The reason I was kicked out was because I found information on deep seated corruption while investigating the private life of the Raikage." Haru's voice was barely above a whisper. "I was kicked out for spying on my brothers and they quietly cut out the corruption. I told the Raikage and nobody else, but you know the saying beware those who know too much. In hindsight it was a wise move by the Raikage. I don't hold it against him. But I don't want him holding it against me to stall this investigation."

Sayuri Fukazawa

The staff was quick and attentive, it seemed like her drink order had arrived to her table as soon as she had ordered it, they didn't even say a word about the fox pup who was sitting in the booth with her. The entertainment wasn't bad either, having a strong energetic feel to the music. She slowly observed the room as she picked up the bottle of Awamori, chosen carefully of course, not suited to her own tastes but that of the people she was preying upon.

Pouring a glass, she made eye contact with various patrons profiling what sort of occupation she deduced they might have. None were all that impressive, or reputable mind you. She took a sip, thankful that it was at least properly aged and fairly mellow tasting. It was definately not something she could get used to though.

It didn't take long for the alcohol to start kicking in though, especially after she had finished off her third glass. The booth was starting to get crowded as well she began inviting people to join her in her drinking. She laughed at all their silly jokes and stories they kept telling her, trying to gain her attention and interest.

"You know what I heard when I first got to town? That there might be a scary murderer out there preying on people, it's such a terrifying thought!", Sayuri said, pitching her voice a little lighter and softer to sound more airheaded. The 'gentlemen' in her booth were more then willing to try to comfort her about the situation, declaring their dedication to keeping her safe and walking her home as they tried to stumble over each other.

"Are they close to catching such an evil man like that at least?", she asked with a fake innocense.
"For a whore, you're unusually interested in discussing some rather unpleasant topics. Why exactly would that be, Kitsune wench?", a voice from the booth next to hers asked.

"What the...", Sayuri stated as she knelt on the seat and peered over the booth to the neighbouring one. There sat a rather handsome young man alone, a simple glass of water resting untouched on the table. When she leaned over, he held up a style of mask she knew all to well, "Crap...".

Taragi Hisogi

"Oh joy. One teammate abandons me and the other has to stay outside because of all the red tape, awesome" Hisogi said with a joke and sarcastic tone in his voice. He shook his head as he saw the Raikage tower in the distance. Hisogi took a deep breath.

"Alright, I want you to stay down her eand just keep an eye. For anything that you would see as out of the ordinary" Hisogi instructed. "Whether its the people, the Jashin, or ANBU, I want to know what's going on....alright. I'll see you later" Hisogi said before entering the building and heading up to meet with the secretary and requesting a meeting with the Raikage.
