It was quiet in the house. Peaceful. Tranquil. Especially in the garden where the beautiful crimson haired Kunoichi sat, staring off across the Koi filled pond surrounded by  beautiful Sakura trees that were already in full bloom. The best parts of her day was here, the setting of the sun and when it did, it would shine bright across the pond and seem to ignite the pink flowers of the Sakura trees with energy and vibrence. When the sunset hit its apex during that time, it almost felt like a door to heaven had opened and for the briefest second, she could remember Hotaru's smile so vividly.

Kasumi stretched her hand as the sun set across the sky, as if she was reaching out to heaven to pull Hotaru back to her. You're just torturing yourself, you need to move on with your life, people said, but Kasumi knew they didn't understand, they never understood. She had failed so completely in her life and her mission of vengence, that she was stuck here, being nursed, or guarded, thanks to Hazumi's sheer pity for her. Not that she blamed him, he had only ever tried to help her, even after she had so callously betrayed him several times for her vengence during their crusade.

She had dishonored herself so many times, and so severely that she could barely muster the motivation to move somedays. Her honor and her pride had been stripped by that unnatural bitch, who had so easily dismissed her and knocked her out when she attempted to kill Tsurugi Kusanagi while he and Sayuri battled. Discarded like a broken instrument, knocked down and out with so little effort on Sayuri's part. It burned her up and ate away her calm like the most corrosive acid known to man.

With a sigh, Kasumi sat and watched as the sun went down, opening her a little notepad and drawing one more tally mark in the back page, a tally mark for every sunset she had seen since the fall of the Yakuza. It also meant that Hazumi was going to be home soon. Slowly mustering the will, Kasumi got up and walked back to the house. Sliding the door open, she shuffled her slippered feet across the tiles as she looked around the house for him. Shrugging her shoulders, Kasumi started boiling a pot of rice for their dinner and turning on the Television... She needed to at least pretend she had been doing something today, other then wasting time lost in her own sorrow.

The past year had caused a great change in Hazumi's life. He wasn't even sure where to begin. With the Yakuza broken up, Hazumi felt like his goal had been accomplished. Shen was still out there, but the organzation that protected him so well was now destroyed. He was one of the most wanted men across the shinobi realm, he would never have peace for another day that he lived. That was justice enough for Hazumi, someone was going to kill him or capture him one day.

After their success, the Raikage offered Hazumi a massive reward for helping to take down the Yakuza. He wasn't the only one to show his gratitude, as the Daimyo offered Hazumi a position as a bodyguard. IT would have been a great honor, but Hazumi didn't want to leave his home. Kumo would always be his home. It was the location he kissed his wife, took night walks with her, proposed to her...there was too much to leave behind.

Hazumi did accept a new job as the head of the Hunter-Nin squads though. With his rewards and this job, he would likely never be in need of anything again. The money he had was more than he could ever imagine...and yet a sadness dwelled on his heart for his comrade: Kasumi.

The young kunoichi couldn't let go of what happened to her, the loss proving too great for her to move on from. She missed her love, and she now walked as if she was a corpse without a purpose. He felt sorry for her, but knew there was nothing he could do for her. Money wouldn't help, nor would training. She had to change on the inside, or her carcass would only continue to rot.

Hazumi walked in to his home, holding a variety of meats that he had purchased from the market. As he walked in he felt his shadow clone disperse. So, Kasumi hadn't done much today. That was good, at least it was better than the self-harm she used to attempt. Hazumi hadn't allowed Kasumi to stay alone since the day he took her in. He knew her too well by now.

"Kasumi, I bought some pork from the market. I hope you're hungry" Hazumi said as he walked in to the kitchen, full shinobi attire still on.

Kasumi turned around from stirring the pot of rice as Hazumi walked through the door holding pascels from the market. She was definately hungry, she hadn't eaten all day, not that she'd ever admit that to Hazumi though, he worried about her enough as it was. For all of her own grieving, it was easy for her to forget that Hazumi had lost more then she ever had. It was just more proof of how weak a person she really was, she assumed.

"Yeah, I guess I'm getting peckish", she fibbed to him, "I only just started the rice, so we've got some time".

Kasumi grabbed the TV remote off of the kitchen bench and turned up the volume so it could be heard through the house. She slowly busied herself with pulling out a nice size cut of pork for them and preheating the wok. She wasn't a bad cook but she had never really been very good domestically, but somehow she had managed to improve a little... At least enough that Hazumi didn't have to add so much soy sauce to make it edible anymore.

"How was work? Did you get any new leads on that Missing-nin you've been after?", Kasumi asked, blandly at first, but the thought of work seemed to pick up her enthusiasm a little more.

Hazumi stepped in to his room to change in to normal garbs. Thankfully the paper walls were thin enough that they could still speak to one another as he did this. He removed his armor and tunic before discarding them to wash tonight. He began to slip on a black silk robe for himself. The sleeves were long on this one as much as they were on any of his outfits. Despite his praise, the burns and chains of Hazumi's arms still bothered him. He wasn't sure he'd ever become used to looking at them.

"We did actually, we think we've narrowed down perhaps a safe house for a missing nin that's been robbing the city recently" Hazumi chimed up as he heard Kasumi cooking. He tied his outfit together before stepping out to walk back in to the kitchen again. "We've recently discovered that he has a cousin that's been offering him help. Nothing major, just food and some water. We granted the man a reduced sentence if he gave us some information. We believe we know the location of the missing nin now...and lucky for me, being the boss means that I don't have to go on this one" Hazumi said with a chuckle.

The laugh did not last long though, as Kasumi never joined in with his joy. He cut his laugh short before looking towards her again. "So...what did you do today?"

Kasumi had chopped the vegetables and sliced the meat by the time Hazumi had returned to the Kitchen as she listened to the updates to the hunt. He had always shared his day with her, at first, just telling her for the sake of filling the silence they often found themselves in but eventually Kasumi almost looked forward to hearing his tales. It almost made her feel like she was part of something again, even if she couldn't physically help out the village for 'Medical' and 'Political' reasons. She was still an exile of her country after all and the mental state she had fallen into after the collapse of the Yakuza had permanently disqualified her for Kumo service because she was deemed psycologically unfit for duty. So instead, she wallowed about Hazumi's place and played chef when she could muster the motivation to do so.

Kasumi forced a smile and a soft hah as Hazumi laughed about not needing to oversee the mission. As much as he had gotten to know her, she had gotten to know him as well and he simply didn't want to risk leaving her alone for the length of time such a mission would take up... He never did. Of course, talking about himself didn't last long as he enquired about her own day. She couldn't help but sigh as she tossed oil into the wok to heat as she grabbed the sauces from the cupboard.

"I missed most of the day by napping on the couch, I didn't sleep well last night. Those nightmares are back, the ones about... Forget it, it doesn't matter", Kasumi told him, brushing it off as she picked up the chopping board and turning around to dump the pork into the wok so he couldn't see her eyes start to tear up.

"The sun set was beautiful today though, number 378 today was", she told him, stirring the conversation to less painful topics.

"I'm sorry to hear that," Hazumi said quietly. "I'm still willing to pick up some sleeping medication if you wish?" he offered. He normally wouldn't offer such a thing, but Kasumi had been slipping further away and perhaps could use a longer night's rest. HE would just have to make sure that he limited the number he gave her, making sure she took it each time. Even something as simple as sleeping pills could have a very negative side effect if Kasumi wished and planned for it...

"Twenty-two more and you'll be at four hundred, you should do something special for it" Hazumi said as he sat down at the table. "Perhaps paint it...or write about it, something just to mark the day" he suggested.

Kasumi was a shinobi, but that drive had left her. With Hazumi she had grown strong, but in the last year she had lost much of that strength. She just didn't have the will or the desire anymore to go through with it. Her purpose was lost even to her. HE wanted her to have something besides her thoughts to distract her. He longed for her to find a passion once again, anything.

"Thanks Hazumi but I don't think I could stand taking anymore pills, that's all those medical-nin seem to want to feed me", she told him honestly as she dumped the vegetables into the wok and add a touch more sauce. She knew he was only trying to help but even if she was tired of being tired, she couldn't stand to look at another bottle of medication again.

"Can you grab some bowls? This is almost ready", Kasumi asked casually as she shook the wok and stirred the contents and several times. She really hoped she had used the right combination of flavors but she was certain that Hazumi would tell her how good it was regardless of how grand or trash it really was and she'd get mad again for not being honest with her. For a second, just the briefest of moments, Kasumi almost let slip a laugh from her sullen demeanor as she imagined the scenerio play out in her head.

Picking the wok off the stove, the portioned up the meals between the two bowls, giving Hazumi the bigger portion for rather obvious reasons and chucked the dirty wok into the sink. Picking up her chop sticks she made her way over to the couch in front of the TV, sliding herself into the lefthand corner as that stupid Super Sentai program 'Akira-kun: Ninja Detective' started with the same lame and predictable cold opening it always had.

"Can you believe this show? Ninja detectives, pfft, how far fetched can you get", she complained as she took a mouthful of her food. It didn't taste to bad, although she realised she had skimped a little to much on the ginger and garlic.

Hazumi thanked her as he took the food that she offered. He took a sniff and the aroma seemed to be appealing. She had definitely improved since their first meeting. Hazumi felt like cooking might be the one part of KAsumi that had actually improved since she started to stay with him. Sometimes he wondered if he was actually doing her a favor. What if there was someone else out there that could help her, but he was holding her back?

Hazumi pushed these thoughts aside as he sat on the opposite end of the couch. "You know you always complain about this show, and yet you always have it on at this time. I have more than one channel you know" he teased before starting to eat. The food was good, though he also noticed the flaws that were present. Still, it was nothing to be ashamed of.

"Want anything to drink? I think I'll get myself a beer" Hazumi admitted as he stood up.

Kasumi Asogi

Kasumi grunted in a rather unlady-like manner as Hazumi remembered her of the fact that she still seemed to watch the show. He wasn't wrong, she had seen most of the episodes this year but it didn't make the program any less stupid, although it always served as a nice half hour distraction, something she could make fun of while she ate. She didn't mind, as long as he wasn't trying to get her to leave the house again for her 'own good', she didn't mind a bit of harmless teasing from him.

"Yeah and if those channels had anything better on in this timeslot we'd be watching those, Zumi-kun. At least this is funny with how ridiculous the producers made all of his chakra attacks, I mean 'Hyper Extreme Flaming Death Chidori?", Kasumi said, reminding him of yesterday's finishing move the Ninja Detective had used as she popped a strip of pork into her mouth.

Kasumi turned around as Hazumi wandered off to the kitchen to collect some beer, asking her if she ones anything herself. Kasumi gave muffled confirmations at first before she finally managed to chew and swallow the ill timed piece of pork, "Yes please, but do you still have any of that light beer from the other day instead? That was nicer".

"You got me there," Hazumi remarked. "I know when some of these jutsu were first created they had to kinda just call it what made sense, but now...there's no excuse for a name like that" the hunter-nin said as he used his utensils to eat the food that Kasumi had prepared.

"I definitely still have some of that, I have about four more if memory serves" Hazumi said before opening the fridge. He pulled out two cold ones before returning to the room and sliding the light beer towards Kasumi. "Cheers" he said as he held his bottle before drinking about a fourth of the contents in one go. He gave a firm swallow before wiping his lips.

"Anything you'd like to do before we call it a night?"

Kasumi Asogi

Kasumi watched the TV show with minimal interest as Hazumi collected their beverage from the fridge. She finished up the rest of her rice and set it down on the coffee table, stealing the pillow that sat on the arm chair next to her to cuddle. Hazumi sat back down next to her and slid the beer across the length of the coffee table. Popping open the bottle cap with the nail of her nail, she took a sip and set it down as Hazumi asked her if she wanted to do anything.

She waited until he was well into a gulp of his beer before saying unexpectedly, "We could sit here and make-out", Kasumi put her chin in the palm of her hand, sipping on her beer as she watched his reaction with enough amusement to make a small smile creep across her somber face.

"To be honest, I slept most of the day, I'm probably going to sit here, drink your beers, watch your TV and pass out on your couch. You don't have to stay here and watch shitty TV if you're tired, Zumi-kun", Kasumi explained, still to stubborn to admit that even she enjoyed having the company sometimes.

Hazumi

Hazumi just glanced over with a near blank expression. A smile tugged at the edge of his lips as they made eye contact, as he immediately caught that it was a joke. He was surprised that she made such a joke. After losing her last lover, Kasumi didn't seem to have romantic interests at all in the future. HAzumi could understand and respect that, but he wasn't sure if this was a good or a bad sign. For now, he'd just play it off as the joke.

"You know I fell for that the last three times, won't happen again" Hazumi said before drinking more of his beer and setting it down.

"I am not that tired Kasumi. I don't mind staying up for some time and just sitting with you. I enjoy our routine" Hazumi said simply. HE wasn't sure what else there was to say right now.

Kasumi Asogi

"Suuuure it won't", Kasumi replied in her teasing and disbelieving tone as she sipped to the half way mark of her beer.
"Fine, I can use the company anyways", Kasumi reassured him as she snuggled further into the couch. The programming after Akira-kun: Ninja Detective was equally as crap or cheesy but it made for some half decent watching, especially after the second beer had gone down. Hazumi had almost gotten her to smile once during the night again but she had refused to give in to his attempted cheer out of childish spite, which amused her greatly.

She remembered about half of the movie they broadcast, it had been long winded and boring but it was enough to get even Kasumi to drift off to sleep on the couch. Even after all that had happened, she still shivered in her sleep from the nightmares that haunted her, followed her, tormented her. There was only so much she could take before she woke up still on the couch, her beautiful red hair plastered to her forehead from the cold sweat her nightmares had created. Sitting forward she rubbed her eyes, as if trying to clear away the images when something metallic rattled in the Kitchen. Kasumi instantly sat upright and turned around to peer into the darkness, a little shaken by the sudden noise.

"Zumi-kun?", Kasumi called out into the darkness. When she activated her Byakugan, the last thing she expected to see were the chakra pathway systems of five men standing in the Kitchen. So she was naturally taken aback when one of them launch at her and swung his fist, clocking her square in the jaw, knocking her to the floor with a heavy thud. In a move she had little need to perform over the last year, Kasumi rolled onto her back and flipped back to her feet, shifting her weight for better balance as she brought her hands up to complete her guard. Wiping blood that started to pool at the corner of her mouth, Kasumi brushed the hair out of her right eye to give her Byakugan a clear view, "HEY! ZUMI-KUN!! There are a some people who want to talk to you!", she called out, hoping he could hear her.

They didn't give her the time to gain her reinforcements as all five of them charged at once. In several swift actions, Kasumi kicked the couch backward toward the Kitchen, taking two of the assailants off their feet as she side stepped the thirds flying kick. She managed to block the fourth attackers punch with her forearm but the fifth caught her in the stomach with a sharp knee, staggering her back and dropping her to her knees as they all recovered and unsheathed their ninjato...

Hazumi

Hazumi sat and watched the programs with Kasumi. She always complained about them, but Hazumi had a feeling that she was starting to grow attached to these characters. He believed that Kasumi desired a somewhat normal existence again, and watching these corny shows somehow made her feel like she was involved in more than just sitting about watching fake people. Hazumi didn't know, but it was a guess.

After the next program, Hazumi saw that his comrade had fallen asleep. Hazumi retrieved a blanket from the woman's room and wrapped her in it, not wanting her to get cold through the night. "Sleep well Kasumi...I pray that you do" the man whispered before heading off to his own room.

While sleep found Hazumi quickly, it didn't seem like it was going to last long. His eyes shot open as soon as his name was spoken. Being a shinobi, you learned to sleep lightly. HE heard clammor from the front room and bolted up, using his speed to get towards the front room. Hazumi said nothing as he saw five men withdrawing ninjatos. He had to intervene!

"HEY!" he shouted. The men would turn to him as Hazumi undid the chains wrapped around his arms and caused them to extend to the floor. "Pick on someone your own size!" he shouted before lashing his hands out. One chain wrapped around a man's neck before Hazumi turned and tried to throw him out the nearest window. The second man had his hand wrapped up. Hazumi pulled the assailant towards him before delivering a powerful punch to his face.

After this attack, Hazumi dashed forward and stood in front of Kasumi, making it very clear they'd have to go through him to get to her. "Grab the kunai, attached to my right foot. Sorry it's all I had on me for you," he said as he waited to see if the rest of them were going to make a move or if his attack had destroyed what bravery they had.

Kasumi Asogi

Kasumi let out a sigh of relief the instant she heard Hazumi call out to the assailants as he burst into the front room. She caught her breath as Hazumi crushed through two of them with easy. If she wasn't mistaken, he had definately gotten stronger since she had last seen him fight, irritating her pride. Still she couldn't let him get away with being so late though as she smacked his calf with the back of her hand.
"Decided to sleep in did you?!", Kasumi critized as she grabbed the kunai from his foot and stood up next to him, rubbing her stomach, "Today is not your lucky day assholes, I don't think you know who you're screwing around with".

"Hazumi the Hunter and Kasumi Asogi... I presume?", the middle assailant stated as he stepped forward, "You have been marked for death by the Order of the Moon... These minutes are you last, savior them while you can".

With that the three of them exploded into a near platoon of shadow clones that just about filled the entire front room as they all charged head first in an attempt to beat down and dog pile the pair.

Hazumi

"Sleep in? You're the last person I wanna hear about that from" Hazumi said as he held still so Kasumi didn't cut herself when taking the kunai from the strap on his leg. "You're lucky I showed up when I did!" he chastised her before turning to their opponents.

"The Order of the Moon? What kinda bullshit is-" but Hazumi stopped as the men burst into several shadow clones and charged forward. Damn, there were a lot of them. Sometimes numbers was the best strategy in enclosed places. They were coming, and Hazumi didn't have long to make a decision. "Duck Kasumi" he said so she could hear it.

Hazumi's chains began to glow a deep orange as KAsumi could feel the heat coming off of them. Without waiting any further Hazumi spun his arms and his body, sending the chains flying out around the room, in an attempt to cut through as many shadow clones, and perhaps their attackers if they were lucky, before they were overrun. Hazumi used his Flame Dance, hoping that the techinque would be enough to overwhelm their attackers.

Kasumi Asogi

Kasumi did as she was told the instant it the command escaped Hazumi's lips. She dropped to her knees and covered her head, pulling it to her legs. She could feel the temperature in the room change as Hazumi's chains whipped around the room causing clones to explode around them and spilling the blood of the lead attackers wingmen as they were cleaved in half.

"Whoa...", Kasumi muttered as she looked up at the carnage. It had been a while since she had seen him perform that technique and it still didn't get any less scary. Several surfaces hissed and crackled, with flammable objects sporting freshly ignited fires. The last assailant bounced back into the Kitchen as he stared in awe of the display himself.

"Dammit! I will not fail my mission! The prophesy refers to two of you, it can't come true if at least one of you is dead!", he screamed as he pulled a bow from his back and loaded an arrow into the string, "Block this!", he roared, aiming straight for Kasumi's head and let his arrow fly.
With minimal effort, Kasumi raised her hand toward her face, catching the arrow out of the air mere inches from her nose.

"... You lost this", Kasumi retorted, throwing the arrow back and striking her attacker between the eyes. He made a gurgling sounds before collapsing backward onto the tiled floor of the Kitchen.

Hazumi

The men apparently had not come prepared for this. Whatever information they had been given was clearly outdated. Hazumi had been a good shinobi before defeating the Yakuza, his journey with Kasumi had only made him a fantastic one now. He was stronger now than he had ever been before. He smirked to himself as he saw that there was only one attacker left.

Hazumi watched as the arrow flew, his eyes trailed towards Kasumi. As if everything happened in slow motion, Hazumi saw as the girl seemed to regain some of her skills and the training he put her through. She caught the arrow before the tip came anywhere close to piercing her skin or clothes. With a flick of her wrist, she dispatched the last man.

Hazumi moved forward and gathered the dead men together, looking over at what was left of them. "Order of the Moon and a prophecy?" the hunter nin questioned. He stayed quiet for a time. "Damn, we should have let one of them live. They made it sound like they wouldn't be the only people coming," he admitted before turning to look at Kasumi.

"Are you injured?"

Kasumi Asogi

With a deep exhale, Kasumi dropped to the floor trying to catch her breath. She hadn't experienced the rush of combat for over a year now and it was a sensation her body was no longer used too. Using the Byakugan hadn't helped either, it used to feel effortless when she had been training with Hazumi and fighting the Yakuza but now, she felt like that small amount of usage had sapped a massive portion of her chakra.

"I'm okay, really. They only wounded my pride", she said, remembering how embarassingly open for that knee strike she had left herself when it happened.

She stood up and shuffled across the floor to see if Hazumi had found anything when she noticed something. One of the assailants, the one Hazumi had punched in the face when he first arrived, was still alive. He had nasty burns across parts of his body from obviously being unconscious and to close to Hazumi's Fire Dance technique but his chest was definately rising and falling! Activating her Byakugan again to make sure, despite the strain, Kasumi bend day and pulled the man out of the pile of bodies.

"Zumi-kun! This ones still alive, I can see it!", she said to alert him to the situation.

Hazumi

"Well that's good...I think I damaged my house more than they did" he admitted as he rubbed the back of his head. "Ah well, at least I didn't break anything really expensive" Hazumi chuckled before turning over as Kasumi noticed something.

"Alive?" Hazumi asked before walking over. He could see a bit better now that his eyes had adjusted more, and he saw that Kasumi was right. This man was in a lot of pain, but most definitely alive. Good, now perhaps they could get some answers.

Hazumi placed the bottom of his boot against the man. "Hey," he said to make the man look up at him. "Look I don't care much about who you are, all I want to know is why you attacked us. Who is the Order of the Moon and what prophecy did your boss speak of?" Hazumi asked as he started to apply a bit of pressure. The burns on his chest would be sensitive, Hazumi wouldn't have to push hard to make the man feel a great amount of pain.

"I don't like repeating myself. Tell me what I want to know"

Kasumi Asogi

"Argh!", the man cried as the pain snapped him back to consciousness, his arm coming up to grab hold of Hazumi's foot. Kasumi grabbed his arm by the wrist and pushing it against the floor.
"P-Please! Ahh! The pain-", he tried to cry out before being smacked across the face by Kasumi to shut him up. The last thing they needed was him blubbering on for so long he died of his wounds, she needed to keep this on track. Yet another thing she suppose she had learned from Hazumi.

"Okay! Okay! Just... Please", He cried out at them, almost whimpering a little as his mind surely filled his head with far more brutal events then Hazumi and Kasumi were going to carry out, "I work for the Order of the Moon, we are the avatars in this world for the spirit gods of the next. We maintain order and see that the gods are appeased... And since your defeat of the Yakuza, they have been angry!", he explained, much to Kasumi's disgust.

"What a crock of shit!", Kasumi exclaimed, smacking him again. She stood up and walked into the Kitchen, not bothered with hearing any more of his lunatic fantasies as she raided the fridge for something to drink.

"No! I speak the truth, I swear!", he pleaded to Hazumi in fear, "Two hundred years ago a seer from our order predict that He who is bond by chains of guilt and followed by the searing heat of red vengence would defeat a monster of many hands and by doing so would be put on a path to discovering the door from this world to the next. Very few have ever come true... But the Spirit's are angry and after trying so hard when realised why, an old article of you, a man shackled in chains, defeating the Yakuza, a monster of many hands, followed by the heat of red vengence.. Which I'm sure you can figure out who that refers to. I am not the last of the Order who will try but I am one of the weakest, you will not be so lucky! We will stop you from finding the door to the afterlife, the dead will stay in their eternal peace!", he screamed in defiance as he tried to shift beneath Hazumi's foot.

The sound of a can dropping rung through the air as Kasumi stared at the fridge in shock. She had heard everything. Everything. Particularly the part where they were destinied to open a door to the afterlife... A door from which her beloved Hotaru could return to this world through! Kasumi turned and walked slowly, stopping doorway between the Kitchen and front room, looking across at Hazumi as she wondered what was going through his own mind, was he thinking of his wife and child as selfishly as she was thinking of Hotaru?

"You will never find peace! We will hunt you! We will never stop hunting you until our Master is standing over your cold dead corp-", was all he was able to finish as the Kunai that Hazumi had given Kasumi struck the man in the neck, killing him as it hit with enough force to severe his spine.

"Great, so we're fucked", Kasumi said, when the mans body, along with the pile of his companions suddenly ignited into flames, setting fire to a massive portion of the living room and blowing Kasumi off her feet in the initial explosion. The fire spread quickly throughout their home as the fire ate through the rice paper with ease...

Hazumi

Hazumi listened in silence, not showing any sympathy or remorse for his actions. The only thing he did was lightly lift his boot up so the man wasn't in as much pain as he was a moment ago. Still, Hazumi wasn't so kind as to remove the foot entirely. They needed to show this man that they would do anything to get him to tell the truth. As a man tortured for weeks on end, Hazumi had created several new ways to cause anyone to feel pain.

As the prophecy was spoken, Hazumi listened in surprise. HE glanced down at his hands at the mention of the chains of guilt. Damn, that was quite accurate wasn't it? He also glanced towards Kasumi in the kitchen as they made eye contact. Hazumi wasn't thinking about his wife though, he was thinking about Kasumi. He knew exactly what she was thinking. If there was any hope, she now wanted to find this door in order to get Hotaru back. Bringing back her lover was going to send Kasumi on a spiral...and Hazumi doubted it was a good one.

"I wouldn't say-" but Hazumi stopped as the fire started to spread. "Damn it!" he shouted. It must have been some kind of a fail safe to make sure that even if the men died they might still kill Hazumi and Kasumi. The man launched his chains forward. They wrapped around Kasumi before he pulled back and held her against his chest. He ran and dived out the nearest window, landing in a lake outside of his house.

They both arose a moment later to regain breath. "Kasumi! Are you alright?" he asked as he wanted to make sure the woman was good in a physical and mental state. HE could only imagine what she was going through right now...what she wanted to do.

Kasumi Asogi

It had all happened so fast, but the feel and rattle of chains, along with that smell of fresh air was all she needed to know that Hazumi must have rescued her... Again. It was becoming a bad habit, one she was feverishly keen to break. She moaned as she coughed up black smoke and slowly nodded her head to let him know she was okay as she tried to catch her breath and clear her lungs.

"Yeah, I'm okay, thank you... Again", she told him appreciative.

Getting to her feet, she stopped in her tracks at the sight of the house ablaze. She shook her head and repeated No several times before running forward before Hazumi could stop her and crashing through the rice paper wall to the front room. Covering her mouth with the hood from her hoodie, she ran for her room, booting in the door as the fire licked at her skin, burning it in places. In a mad panic, Kasumi pulled a little jewellry box from under the futon of her bed and slowly, groggily stumbled toward the kitchen.

The heat and the smoke inhalation started to effect her as she thought she stumbled out of the hall and into the Kitchen as a supporting beam to the front room collapsed, taking part of the Kitchen with it. With a determination that she hadn't shown in a while, Kasumi dragged herself through the hole she had made coming in and staggered onto the lawn as the Kitchen collapsed behind her.
She stumbled toward Hazumi for a few paces before collapsing, minor burns running down her arms and across her left cheek and her breathing a continuous cough that did nothing but expell smoke. When she hit the ground, the contents of her jewellry box spilling across the lawn. Photos of Hotaru and herself in different places, Kasumi smiling brighter then Hazumi had ever seen her in almost every photo, laid on the lawn along with one half of a heart shaped locket...

Hazumi

Hazumi was going to go in after her, but he knew that this was personal. If she was this determined, it was something she wasn't going to want his help with. He watched as she ran through the house, only barely holding himself back long enough to see her make it out of the house before it started to collapse.

He walked over and was about to chastise her when he saw the contents of the box. Ah, so that's what she had gone back for. Hazumi lowered himeslf to his knees and gathered all of the photos together and gently putting them back in the box. These were sacred, and he wasn't going to let them lay on the ground.

Hazumi lifted up the locket last and offered it to Kasumi. "You've been burned...allow me to heal you. I'll need you at full strength for what comes next"

Kasumi Asogi

Kasumi laid on the lawn coughing, unable to gasp a decent lung full of air after breathing in so much smoke. She opened her dry, blurry eyes and watched as Hazumi picked up her photos and placed them carefull back in the jewellery box. Tears rolled down her face and across her burn mark as her friend offered the locket to her. She used every bit of energy she had to reach her hand out and take the trinket from him, pulling it to her heart and holding it here as she shiffled tears of joy.

"You've always helped me, no matter how much trouble I've always caused you", she said as Hazumi offered to heal her wounds, to this day not fully understanding why he was always so nice to her. pulling the locket around her neck, Kasumi clasped it together and let it dangle from her neck, "Heal me, so we can make them pay!"

She clenched her fist as that look of determination that had long since died spread through her eyes like like the inferno behind them. She would make them pay and force them to tell her the secret of the doorway to the afterlife. Then she could return Hotaru and Hazumi's family to the world of the living and end the suffering she and Hazumi never deserved...
