Enlightened

Amy was already heading for the door as he said that leaving was their choice, but as he announced what was in the package that he’d given to Ryan she turned on her heel and marched straight back to where she was before.

“I’m all in,” she gave a mock salute to the man once he was finished, answering Ryan’s inquiry at the same time. “Since you seemed interested earlier I warped the gravity around the door lock to pull it out of place. That’s how I roll.” She suddenly seemed totally friendly and at ease.

"Glad to see that your heart is in the right place Amy", Ryan said jokingly as he let out a tiny chuckle. Still, he had to admit that the money was a nice place, and Ryan wouldn't be able to feel that great if some bad things happened when he could have prevented it.

"Gravity manipulation? Astounding", Raine said as he scratched his chin. "I've never seen an ability like that before", he admitted before trying to sit up a bit straighter in his seat. "Right now I don't have any leads for you to check up on. You should both probably head out and merely go about your lives. When something comes up, I'll contact you"

“What can I say?” Amy spoke casually with a smile and shrug. “He spoke my language. Get paid large sums of money to be some sort of hero? I’m not gonna argue.”

“Well boss,” she spoke to Raine. “I guess we’ll be going then?” she both asked and stated at the same time, walking experimentally toward the door she’d almost walked out before.

"Yes you may leave, just keep an eye out for me. When I have something for you, you'll see me", Raine said before turning back to look at the fire that was burning in his fireplace.

Ryan glanced over at Amy as they walked right out the front door. He pocketed his half of the money. "Well, I don't know what all we're getting involved in, but maybe it won't be as hard or as dreary as he makes it seem", he said with a tiny shrug as they started walking down the street. They'd recognize the area in a few moments, being able to navigate to wherever they were heading next. "And told ya it wasn't my fault", Ryan mumbled after a few moments of silence.

Amy’s brow went up with the guy’s comment. That was a little creepy. Could he appear anywhere? What if she was in the shower?! Or using the bathroom?! Could he watch her sleeping?! She shuddered, but kept the disturbing thoughts to herself, instead just hurrying to leave.

“It’ll be a cinch!” she replied optimistically once they were out and Ryan began to talk to her. “What could possibly trump what we can do? I mean… sure our control isn’t really stellar, but we’re pretty damn good when we try! …And it still could’ve been partly your fault,” she squeezed in on the end.

As they walked she noted where they’d come from and the directions they were going so that she could make it back if she had to.

"Suppose that you got a point, but still it's just a bit disheartening", Ryan admitted as they kept walking forward. "I mean what if like a serial killer ending up getting powers? That stuff would just be messed up", he said as he scratched at his head. Still, not much sense in worrying about it this very second. "Guess your right though, no point in worrying about it right now. We'll deal with it when that time comes"

A few days later.........

Ryan was sitting at his usual table at lunch, eating a sandwich that he had prepared from home. He glanced up as he saw the other kids in school, going about their everyday lives. Ever since they had left that guy's place Ryan couldn't help but feel like he was being watched. Maybe it was just because the guy himself had been creepy. He shrugged it off as he saw Amy moving over.

"How'd your classes go?", Ryan asked curiously.

Amy sighed with heavy exasperation at Ryan's question, puffing a strand of hair upward with the corner of her mouth as she sat down across from him.

"Same as always. Bored out of my gourd of course. I'm pretty sure I slept through most of algebra, but I can't really be sure without asking someone. I was kinda in that zone where you feel like you're awake, but you're not sure if you're dreaming. Any good news on your end?" she asked, waiting expectantly.

"Can't blame ya, I swear I'm going to break my head if I have to hear about another science lesson", Ryan said with a tiny chuckle. "You know, as someone who wants to be an English major I just don't see what the point of me taking science is. What good will anything I learn in that class do for me when I'm a teacher of English? I mean seriously", Ryan said as he shook his head. "Either way, I'm just glad that it's over"

Ryan took another bite of his sandwich before glancing over at the line where they could get food. "I don't know about you but it's been a long day.........wanna ditch the last class or something?"

“Don’t ask me,” Amy replied to his initial question. “I’m pretty sure that I don’t really need any of this, but then it’s not as though we’ve been given much of a choice. Just gotta deal till we’re out…”

She trailed off at that, lazily munching on her own sandwich before actually perking quite a bit at Ryan’s suggestion.

“I thought you’d never ask! Let’s take this show on the road!” She was quick to abandon lunch, hopping up from the seat and heading off to throw the rest out without a second thought. She was more than ready to get the hell out!

Ryan was about to respond to Amy's first statement, but her excitement over skipping school seemed to be overpowering what they were talking about to begin with. As she dashed off and threw her lunch away he glanced down at his sandwich. "Probably should have waited till I was done eating to suggest that", he said to himself with a tiny laugh before getting up and throwing his food away. "Come on, before anyone asks what's up", Ryan said.

As they walked outside Ryan lead the way to his car that he took to school. Amy was on the way, so he always ended up picking her up to take her. He hopped into the driver's seat and started the ignition. "You seem the most excited about this, where do you wanna go?", he asked as he looked at her.

Amy practically skipped to the car with light steps, sliding into the passenger seat and kicking back without a care in the world.

“Hmm… Let’s go to the library. I need to study up a little,” she spoke with a straight face. If he actually bought that suggestion of hers then he was even more gullible than he looked.

Ryan of course was smart enough to know when Amy was being sarcastic. "Really? You wanted to skip school to go to the library?", he asked with a raised eyebrow. After a moment of silence he just let out a laugh before shaking his head. He pulled out and began to drive out of the school parking lot. "Wanna catch a movie or something? I'll buy if ya like"

“Does that make it a date if you do?” Amy asked with a mix of wonder and amusement. She smiled anyways. “Sure! You gonna buy the popcorn too? I’m all in if that’s the case! If you actually agreed to take me to the library I'd have really laughed. Who actually reads books these days? You passed the test!”

"I don't know, call it whatever you want. Just let me know what you decide it is so I can act appropriately", Ryan said as he made several turns and moved through the busy streets. "And yeah, I'll get the popcorn and drinks don't worry about it. I just got paid after all", Ryan said with a laugh. Amy and he just got paid four grand each after all, it wasn't like they were breaking the bank by seeing a movie.

"Yeah, I hate how teachers force us to actually use books. I can find everything on the internet, so why not just use that? Why do I HAVE to use a book?", Ryan asked as he glanced at Amy. "It's annoying, I got a D on my last paper because of that", he said to himself as he continued to drive.

“Ha! Yeah… Hate those teachers who think they’re forcing you to be intellectual by requiring you to use book sources instead of the internet. I always just take the hit, cuz I could really give two shits less. I guess it’s just an old people thing, huh? …Do you think we’ll be like that?” Amy actually shuddered at the thought. She didn’t want to be a lame old granny when she grew old.

"I'd like to think not. We'll probably just be old in our own way, hopefully not like these old ones though", Ryan commented with a tiny shrug. Getting to that age was a really long time from now, so why worry about it really? "So what kind of movie do you want to see?", Ryan asked as they were approaching the theater. They were getting close to being there so they might as well decide what to see.

“There any horror flicks out? I haven’t been keeping track,” Ami asked, leaning back in the seat with her hands behind her head before quickly deciding that it was uncomfortable and going right back to how she’d been. “I feel like a good cringe or two… as long as you’re cool with that.”

"I'm sure that there is some sort of horror flick out. I just don't know what", Ryan admitted. He didn't follow the horror movies too much when they were in theaters. He normally preferred renting them and watching them on a Halloween night or something along those lines. "Yeah I'm fine with it. Whatever you wanna watch", Ryan said before finally pulling into the theater.

After several minutes they finally found themselves inside. Ryan handed Amy a twenty. "Buy whatever you like, I'm gonna quickly use the restroom than grab us some seats. Catch ya inside", he said with a smile before turning and walking off.

“You’re always so agreeable,” Amy commented casually. “Doesn’t anything ever grind on you? What if I said that I wanted to go home and watch a porno with you instead?”

Once they were inside, Amy listened carefully enough to Ryan’s instructions before blowing an overdramatic kiss to see him off. As he actually left she made her way to the concession stand, thinking hard about just what she wanted as she waited in line…

As Ryan would come to find out once she’d arrived and sat beside him, Ami got a large popcorn and a drink for each of them. She needed her Mountain Dew fix… She would have bought some candy to go along with it, but as it turns out, a twenty doesn’t go very far in a movie theater and she didn’t really wanna use every last bit of cash that he’d given her just for her sweet tooth.

"Only a few things grind me. But I just try to not let it show you", Ryan said before hearing her next question. "I don't think that would be a good idea.........I have a particular taste in my porn", he said before a brief second of silence before cracking up. HE could never make jokes like that and keep a straight face, it was just impossible for him. "Ill gladly accept an invitation next time though"

As Amy blew her kiss Ryan decided to play along, grabbing into the blown kiss as if it was a speedball before slipping it into his pocket and winking at her.

"Are you gonna even be able to close your eyes once you finish that?", Ryan asked as he took his own popcorn and Doctor Pepper. "I mean that is a hell of a lot of Mountain Dew Amy"

Amy only sighed and shook her head as Ryan cracked his joke. She’d be sure to take him up on that offer when he least expected it… and she was much better at keeping a straight face. It would be an interesting moment to say the least.

Once she was settled in her seat within the movie theater she glanced over at her companion with a smile at his comment, pulling about five packets of sugar and emptying them into the newly opened lid of her pop one after another with satisfying sizzles.

“…I’m sure I’ll manage… eventually.”

"Right, I suppose that we will see about that if you text me all night because you can't sleep", Ryan countered as the movie started. Ryan wasn't a huge fan of scary movies, so throughout the entire thing he was probably getting spooked and jumping more often in his seat than Amy was. He knew that it made him look stupid, but it was never something that he had been able to desensitize himself towards. It was just the way he was.

"Well......that was definitely worth a good ten dollars in scares", Ryan remarked as he they eventually left the theater once the show was over. "Did you like it?"

“Hey, if I can’t sleep then I’m certainly not giving you a chance! You must suffer with me!” Ami shouted dramatically. “Besides, you may not be able to sleep tonight just from having so many nightmares! You were more entertaining to watch than the movie! I’ve never seen a person jump so many times,” she joked. “It was definitely more than worth it.”

Ryan couldn't help but laugh as Amy kept poking jabs at how much he jumped during that movie. "Oh come on, it couldn't have been that bad...........okay maybe it was", he said after a short pause and glancing over at her. "But hey, at least it got us out of school for the day right? Surely it was worth it for more than just my reaction", he remarked as he winked towards her and unlocked the door to the car. "So, a bite to eat or should I just take you home?", he asked curiously.

“Hey getting out of school early, a movie of my choice and dinner? How can I possibly turn that down?” Amy spoke up without a moment of hesitation. “If I didn’t know better I’d think you did something to piss me off and were buttering me up before confessing!”

With that much said she opened the car door and hopped back into the passenger’s seat.

“I chose the movie, so I’ll let you choose where to eat.”
